Did ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Insult Lil’ Kim?

Posted Tue May 5, 2009 2:29pm PDT by Justin Mathews in Musictoob

Did Bruno go too far when he called Lil’ Kim a “tramp?”

Lil’ Kim, rapper and Dancing With The Stars contestant, is no stranger to criticism.

But many think judge Bruno Tonioli may have crossed the line Monday night from “tough judge” to just plain “jerk.” If you missed it, the comment came after Kim and partner Derek Hough finished an elegant waltz.

Bruno, after saying he thought the other judges’ favorable scores were due to “medication,” ripped into Kim.

“You try to be a lady, but you’re more comfortable being a tramp,” said Bruno.

Many across the country were stunned–including Family Law attorney and marital expert Vikki Ziegler. What did the women’s advocate and founder of DivorceDating.com have to say for Bruno?

“It was inappropriate and uncalled-for,” said Vikki.

“I think he should issue a public apology. I think it sends a really poor message to women. [Lil' Kim is] in a competition, and her outfits, her behavior, are all ‘it’s a show!’ I mean, isn’t that what it’s about?”

Ziegler explained to Musictoob what Bruno really meant.

“Calling her a ‘tramp,’ or ‘looking like a tramp,’ says to…young women, who want to be stars, want to be rappers, that somehow her behavior in a dancing competition evidences a lack of morals. That’s what he was trying to say, and I think it was disrespectful and inappropriate.”

The second dance of the night for Derek and Lil’ Kim was the salsa; a dance that saw the return of what Kim called the “Bionic Booty.”

But, perhaps anxious to begin damage control, Bruno gave a standing ovation to the pair as soon as they finished the sizzling Latin number–with not one mention of “unladylike” behavior.

The couple scored three nines, for a total of 27, on the salsa, making Kim one of the longest-running musicians on the show–easily beating out Belinda Carlisle and Chuck Wicks.

WHAT A SHOCKER! Lil’Kim went home. The whole room collectively dropped their jaw when Tom Bergeron made the announcement. I am shocked by the outcome of the audience’s vote. However, I think we may be in for some surprises from here on out. Since we have such great competitors left in the game, and they are all sitting quite close to each other on the leader board, the audience vote is really going to come into play. We never know how the audience votes on our show and that keeps it interesting and never allows anyone to have a clear idea of how anyone is doing. I thought Lil’ Kim would be one of the last performers standing. I don’t think I was alone in that thought. But the show must go on. Awww…..but I’m still bummed she went home. In all honesty, I will be bummed every week from here on out. But no one would have predicted he would last longer than Lil’ Kim. But — for those Lil’ Kim fans, she did a great job and really raised her public profile. This show gives celebrities a second shot at fame, it gives them a wonderful new start or a kick start at least to go in new directions with their careers. Lil’ Kim came across so lovely on our show. I certainly felt that I got to see a whole different side of Lil’ Kim while she was on our show. I hope she gets many opportunities from this show. I know she will.

***Kim’s phone line was busy most of the night but something weird happened while i was voting on both of my computers at home…..when i would click to vote for kim & derek after awhile it would take me to a blank screen and then forward me to members services….wtf??? In the 9 weeks ive been voting this shit never happened once…its just odd….suspiciously odd!!

***By now its obvious that the judges are just puppets for the producers/sponsors/behind the scenes dictators. This “creative” group behind the show already had in mind who they wanted/who they didn’t want to win-they already knew before one foot was even set on the dance floor.

This show is clearly rigged!

Kim was one of the best dancers on there, certainly better than Ty and yet she gets voted off before him? This is not a contest of who is the best dancer this is a contest of who appeals to the target demographic the most.

Melissa was on ABC’s the bachelor which is targeted at the exact same demographic.who watch dancing with the stars. She won the bachelor and then the guy dumped her, garnering her amongst ABC’s target demographic many “i’ve been there too” sympathy points

oh poor melissa we have to take care of her and see that she isnt “dumped” ever again!! save it for hallmark cards n oprah please *Gag*

In addition, did anyone else notice Kim’s unfair treatment during the show? the constant underscoring, the name calling, degrading remarks that stands towards all women of color. Among all the other white dancers on the show who bathe, live, and sleep in fake n bake tans, people point out kim’s use of pale make up (ok why isnt anyone talking about the overly tanned/orange white dancers?) why does kim get singled out as an outcast, and why did every reference the judges/hosts made to Kim seem like they were painting her out to be someone who isn’t good for anything other than shaking her ass and being “trampy”

All the other other sexy slutty dancers on the show exhibiting just as much sexuality and in more revealing clothes, but Kim gets singled out for being “the town slut”? food for thought.

once again this is not a contest of who is the best dancer this is a contest of who appeals to the target demographic the most.

the producers know this the sponsors know this and they take heed to it
I AM NEVER WATCHING THIS RIGGED GARBAGE CRAP AGAIN!

***i tried too to vote for her and something was wrong with the lines. bullcrap!! why can’t these shows that supposedly are controlled by the viewers votes be fair? that is the same reason that i stopped watching american idol. they block your votes!! unfair, racism, and everything else. whoever can’t see through all of this ludicrousness is insane themselves!! finally, twenty minutes after the show was off, the line was up…please!!

***I wasn’t a fan of the show to begin with, but it just so happened that one day I was watching and Lil’ Kim was on there. So, I watched her dance and I was really impressed! She has really changed her image and is trying to grow and learn from her mistakes. I will say that when I watch E! News’ segments on the show, they hardly ever show Lil’ Kim and I found it very funny. I’m not playing the race card, but I would like to know why the hell was she voted off when she was such a good dancer and hard worker?! Whether you people want to accept it or not, there are MANY people who don’t want to see a black person succeed. Sadly, this is the world and how it’s gonna be.

***I was in total shock! And I guess that I should have known that they would do that because of what I’ve seen on previous seasons. It should have been Jewel’s husband the cowboy. He was STIFF as he11 ! Kim could REALLY dance, and she improved more and more and got better each week! That show is total BS. And the voting obviously does not make a difference either. I’m watching Kim now on TV. It was taped after her and Derek got eliminated. She’s going to be alright, and she’s handling it well. But that was some bogus stuff for real. They’re either going with the sympathy vote for Shawn(she had a stalker following her), or the groupies are going to help Jiles win since they think he’s so sexy.(it should be based on the best dancer, not sex appeal) Kim is a sweet girl, and she’ll go on to do other things in the entertainment field I’m sure. And it’s not about her being Black, she is just a good dancer. I hope that stiff cowboy goes home next. Those people wouldn’t know good dancing if it jumped up and bit them in the butt.

***This will be the last time I watch Dancing With The Stars. I know it is the votes that keep the dancers in the game, but this is the end of the road for me.
They can take this show off the air as far as I am concern. the voting lines are a joke, because they did not allow the number of votes each week and that is a fact.

***I have seriously lost faith in humanity. How in God’s name is Ty still on this show?! Seriously. I’m not a huge fan of Lil Kim, but I know that she’s a good dancer! And nowhere in the description of the show does it say that the winner is based on who has improved the most over the course of the show, that doesn’t matter. What does matter is how everyone performs each week and I’m sorry, Ty Murray may be endearing and bless his heart for trying, but he is not a good dancer. He may work hard, but I don’t know how anyone can honestly say that Ty Murray is a good dancer. Oh, and before anyone pulls the race card on me, I am white. All of my votes last night went to Shawn Johnson. I am just truly outraged over tonight’s results and if he doesn’t get voted off next week I will never watch this show again, as alot of other people have said as well. So, thank you for posting this, La Monica! You wrote pretty much everything I was thinking. I was absolutely stunned when I heard her name called. I can’t believe it, it was unfair to Chuck Wicks last week but even more unfair to Lil Kim this week.

Is rapper Lil’ Kim getting underscored in
favor of Melissa Rycroft on ‘Dancing With
the Stars’?

Dancing with the Stars contestant Lil Kim.
The stakes have been raised.
This week on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ the five remaining dance couples
had to do not one, but two performances for a combined score. But
something seemed to be amiss in the judges’ scoring methods.
Last week, while reality TV star Melissa Rycroft was absent (due to a
rib injury), lil’ rapper Lil’ Kim flourished. Kim and her partner Derek
Hough recieved the top score for the night.
This week Rycroft returned to dominate again. But were her dancing
abilities deserving the high points she recieved?
Rycroft’s graceful Waltz earned her 27 points. Her no-muss-no-fuss Rumba earned Rycroft and her professional partner Tony Dovolani the top score of 30. The judges applauded her triumphant return and flawless footwork. The combined score put Rycroft back in first place for the night.
Meanwhile, Lil’ Kim and Derek Hough had similar routines.
Kim’s waltz was simple to the point of being boring, and only earned her 25 points. However, the tiny dancer’s salsa was nothing to mess with.
Kim and and Derek were hot with energy on the floor. The rapper even danced a quick solo that incited the audience into a standing ovation.
The judges were overwhelmed by the dynamic duo, praising their technique and sexual energy. The judges claimed that they’d never seen “a booty shake like that” … but only scored them a 27.
The combined score dropped Kim and Hough to next to last place, just ahead of bull-rider Ty Murray (he got a 46).
Does this mean the judges have already envisioned their dancing champion in Rycroft?
It looks like Kim will have to hope she remains a fan favorite, because Tuesday night she’ll have to shake her booty like it’s never been shook before to stay in the competition.

Lil’ Kim “Paso’s” her way back to the #1 spot on DWTS.

Last night was a great night for Lil’ Kim and Derek Hough. After a slight slip on the leader board with last week’s Rumba things are right back on track for the potential New Dancing With The Stars Champions!!!  Receiving 9-9-10 consecutively for a total score of 28 and a huge standing ovation from the crowd after an incredibly passionate Paso Doble! The couple followed it up with a group performance where the hot Lil’ Kim unleashed the Queen Bee to womanize Gilles and Ty in a steaming Tango that won in the group competition.

An amazing week #8, I must say and a glimpse of what is to come from Team Kim & Derek.

Judges comments:

Bruno - “THE BITCH IS BACK AND SHE MEANS BUSINESS!!”
Carie Ann - “It shows us how dramatic, how passionate, how aggressive you are which is your forte’…but its also showed us how far you’ve grown”
Len - “You come out with fire and passion…I was expecting oh no and I got OLE!!!”
